The PADI Rescue Diver Course: how does it work?

The PADI Rescue Diver course at Submariner Diving Center is a performance-based program that typically takes two days to complete. It combines theory, practical skill development, and realistic scenario training to prepare you for managing dive emergencies effectively.

1. Skill Development in Open Water

You’ll start by practicing individual rescue techniques with your instructor in an open water environment, including:

  • Self-rescue skills: Managing common issues such as cramping, fatigue, and equipment malfunctions.

  • Search patterns: Executing effective underwater search techniques to locate missing divers.

  • In-water rescue breaths: Administering rescue breaths while towing an unresponsive diver to safety.

2. Realistic Rescue Scenarios

Once you’ve mastered the individual skills, you’ll apply them in two simulated dive emergencies, which you will manage from start to finish. During these scenarios, you will:

  • Respond to diver distress signals and assess the situation.

  • Perform in-water rescues and provide surface assistance.

  • Manage the logistics of the emergency, including communication and equipment handling.

  • Apply first aid and CPR techniques to ensure diver survival.

3. Putting It All Together

Throughout the course, you’ll need to demonstrate proficiency in applying the skills and knowledge acquired during your theory and skills practice. The goal is to simulate real-life situations where you’ll be responsible for making critical decisions and ensuring diver safety.
